Kooltherm K100 - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 'lambda'?

The lambda of a product is its thermal performance. The lower the lambda value, the more difficult it is for heat to pass through. Therefore thermal performance is improved and a reduced thickness of insulation is needed to achieve the desired U-value.

What is the lambda value of the new Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range products?

The new products have a lambda value of just 0.018 W/m.K across all thicknesses. Here are the thicknesses required for commonly used insulation materials to achieve the same level of thermal perfomance:

Lambda W/m.K Type of Insulation Thickness
0.018 Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range 55mm
0.020 Kingspan Kooltherm 60mm
0.022 PIR 65mm
0.034 Rock Mineral Fibre 100mm
Thickness of insulation to achieve an R-value of 2.857 m2.K/W.
Thicknesses are rounded up to the nearest 5mm

The Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range provides a level of performance that is unrivalled in the world of rigid thermoset insulation materials.
